Why Kerala/India

Why India

India’s natural beauty and exoticism is the stuff of legends. Over millennia India has been visited by people from all corners of the known world, many of whom have fallen in love and stayed, adding to the richness of her cultural diversity. More recently, with her reputation for high levels of education and command of the English language, India has become a major contributor to the global manufacturing and technology sectors.

But this prosperity has not reached everyone. With the world’s second largest population of over 1 billion people, the country struggles to distribute available resources efficiently and hence there are often huge disparities between the rich and the poor. While many communities are thriving, others have been left in a backwater of poverty, poor sanitation, poor health care, poor access to education and a future with limited opportunities.

While the problems are too complex for short term solutions to fix, we have plenty of evidence to show that interaction with the skills and ideas of volunteers from other countries can help raise the skills, education and confidence of project participants.

Why Kerala

The province of Kerala is known as ‘Gods own Country’. For you, the volunteer, it is important also to know that this is one of the safest parts of India for visitors. There is a high level of education, and the People are kind, loving and sincere.

Kerala people are adaptable and friendly with a candid and genuine nature. Here, you will be welcomed and shown the best of local culture and values. Included in your volunteering journey you can also experience the bliss and healing nature of the ancient arts of Yoga and Ayurveda, which have been practised in Kerala for millennia.

Kerala needs you

We share the nation’s problem of developing too quickly. Shiny high rise towers, huge houses, shopping malls, fast cars and smart phones are becoming part of people’s aspirations. But at the same time there are kids who are struggling to find daily food and education, while women lack the skills, education and confidence to support their families and stand proud in the community. This is where you can help – we look forward to welcoming your experience and enthusiasm to uplift our small corner of God’s own country.
